Albania Honey Trail will take us to the South of the country.
The southern part of Albania is one of the best things about Albania. It has the sea, the mountains, nature, history, and everything one can dream of. It is described by visitors very often as Europe’s little paradise. This tour will take you to touch a little bit of everything. The Albania honey trail tour is a tour for people who are passionate about cuisine, nature, and hospitality. Furthermore, this tour will leave you mesmerized. You will get to try different honey specialties and you will visit a lot of new places.
Bees and their keepers. Learn about the Albanian beekeeping tradition, practices, and the wealth of bee forage in the country that Aristotle already emphasized. Taste different honey specialties, like mjalt mare or chestnut honey. Moreover, visit rural beekeepers and experience honey harvesting and other bee products such as propolis or royal jelly first-hand.
Discover gastronomic treasures – ‘petanik’, a bean pie of Korça; ‘qingj në hell’, skewered lamb of the Labëria area. Also discover typical food ‘me mjaltë’ (with honey) like Shendetlie, a honey and nut cake. Take a cooking class along the way, enjoy picnics at the sea and on a mountain, and experience Albania’s indigenous wines and best raki at a winery.
Korçë is a city in southeastern Albania. It is the sixth-largest city in Albania. It stands on a plateau some 850 meters above sea level in the heart of the Morava Mountains.

A visit to an Organic Farm and meet with a representative of the Albanian Beekeeping Association. The owners of the farm will provide us with a wonderful homegrown lunch and a first-hand experience of organic agriculture in Albania. By the Lake Ohrid and discover the beautiful peninsula of Lin with extraordinary floor mosaics of an early Christian basilica.
Then we head south of Albania, where a local beekeeper introduces us to the beekeeping tradition and honey specialties in this area. Afterward, we explore the Vjosa, one of the last wild rivers of Europe by boat during a rafting trip. After a picnic, we get to relax in the thermal springs of Bënjë and explore the impressive Langarica Canyon. In the evening we get our taste buds going at a winery with local wines and the best raki.
Next to Lunxhëri, where we have the unique opportunity to get an insight into certified organic beekeeping practices in Albania. Afterward, we take time to explore the old town of Gjirokastra which is spread at the feet of the Mali i Gjerë Mountains (the Wide Mountain). We make a stop at the famous Blue Eye spring before we reach the Ionian sea
We visit Butrint National Park – an archeological and environmental haven: The ancient ruins are a “microcosm of Albanian history” and the lagoonal landscape one of Albania’s most important wildlife environments. Bring your binoculars along if you like some high-class birdwatching! We continue our journey along the coast to Palase. The area is well known for its olive oil and figs but also its honey (bees find plenty of heathers, thyme, and urdh here) and we learn more about this specialty during our visit with a local beekeeper.
Last but not least
Llogara National Park, where the mountains meet the sea is famous for its vibrant flora and fauna and bees here have more wildflower species to choose from than anywhere else in Europe. A ranger takes us for a hike in the Llogara Park getting a fascinating insight into the bee’s forage while enjoying spectacular vistas of the Albanian Riviera and a picnic. On our way back to Tirana, we stop at the Ardenica monastery with a stunning view over the Plain of Myzeqe before a farewell dinner awaits us.
Hotel transfer. In the evening, we take a guided walk in the city centre and enjoy a welcome dinner.

After a beautiful sunrise over the lake, a visit to a local beekeeper takes us into the heart of beehives and honey production. Afterwards, we explore the sights of Korça, also referred to as the 'little Paris of Albania', including the old Korça Bazaar and the historic Mirahori Mosque.
We continue to Përmet at the foothills of the mighty Nemerçka mountains and home to many gastronomic treasures such as wine, raki and the Arbutus honey (mjalt mare). An afternoon hike takes us to the secluded church of Leusë with wonderful views over the Vjosa valley. In the evening we are invited to a visit a local family.

We make a stop at the famous Blue Eye spring before we reach the Ionian sea in time for dinner and a late evening walk along the pier.
