Our “Snowshoeing in Albania and Kosovo” tour will take you to the best snowshoeing routes in the Albanian Alps. Along the way, you’ll enjoy the mountain scenery and the delicious homemade food that Albania and Kosovo have to offer. So, escape the crowds and immerse yourself in the local culture, history, and natural marvels of Northern Albania!
This tour starts in Tirana where you can choose to see the city or not.
We will start driving into the heart of the Albanian Alps to reach the village of Valbonë. On our way to Valbonë, we will stop in the city of Bajram Curri, a small city situated at the foot of a mountain, for lunch. There, we will see its namesake, a 7-meter statue of the famous warrior, Bajram Curri. After visiting the city’s museum, we will continue driving to our destination through the villages of Valbona valley, taking short breaks along the way. We will spend the night in Valbonë.
We will walk for about 2 -3 hours uphill through thick snow until we reach the village of Pllanë, about 1550 meters above sea level. There we can rest and enjoy the panorama. In the afternoon the meadows of Pllane will give us the perfect opportunity to slide down the mountain back to Valbonë.
Also, we will walk up to Grykat e Hapta Mountain. The walk will be challenging since we will be hiking up to an altitude of 1700 meters. It will take about 3-4 hours to reach our summit. From this point, we can enjoy an amazing view of Valbona valley and the surrounding mountains, including Jezerca which at 2692 meters high is the highest mountain in Albania. After we soak up this spectacular view and have lunch we will begin going down the mountain and return to Valbonë.
Next, we drive toward the village of Tropojë. Before reaching the village we will stop the car and continue walking in the snow from the village of Shoshan to the village of Sopot. During our walk, we will learn about the tradition and the history of the villages and meet with some of the locals on the way. From Sopot, we will drive for the last 15 minutes to the village of Tropojë. Lunch will be in Tropojë where we will get to taste the local products of the village. We will be accommodated in the Aste guesthouse. In the afternoon we will walk to the 800-meter high village of Shipshan.
Furthermore, we will drive to the nearby village of Buçaj. From there we begin the 2.5-hour walk through the snow to the village of Padesh. There we will have lunch in a family house surrounded by a wide forest of beech and pine trees. If the weather is clear we will be able to see the wide valley of Tropoja and part of Dukagjini flatland in Kosovo. After lunch, we will continue walking toward the villages of Kosovo, Koshare, and Botushë. From the village of Botushë, we drive 30 minutes to the city of Gjakovë where we will spend the night.
We will visit the city of Gjakovë and walk through the ottoman Bazaar which has around 500 stores, one of the largest in the Balkans. We will also visit the Hadumi Mosque, one of the most famous in Kosovo. After this, we will leave Gjakovë and head to the historic city of Prizren. Many important events such as the Albanian League have happened in Prizren, making it one of the most historically significant cities in the Balkans. We will visit the memorial house of the Albanian League, Sinan Pasha’s mosque, the Orthodox Church, and the center. After lunch in the city center, we will continue driving to reach the town of Brod where we will spend the night.
The group will begin snowshoeing through the Sharri Mountain range until we reach the altitude of 1600 meters. The Sharri Mountains are part of the most beautiful mountain range in Kosovo. The wildlife is protected, which means that we could possibly see deer and wild goats living in their natural habitat in the National Park of Brod. We will stop deep in the forest for a picnic lunch. In the afternoon we will return to our hotel in Brod.
Last but not least, on the way to Tirana the Snowshoeing in Albania and Kosovo tour makes a stop in historic Kruja. In Kruja, you will discover the history of Albania, and what makes Kruja one of the most important and significant Albanian cities.
Arrival at the Mother Theresa Airport. We drive from the Airport to the city of Tirana. After settling in at our hotel, we can optionally take a city tour of Tirana.

After breakfast we will return to Albania. On the way to Tirana we will visit the city of Krujë, taking time to see its castle and the Scanderbeg museum. After learning about the war hero Scanderbeg and how he withstood three sieges by the Ottoman Empire in this historic town, we will finish our trip to Tirana.
Breakfast in Tirana. We can either spend a relaxed morning before departure in the hotel or optionally we can visit the National History Museum. We will then depart to the Mother Theresa Airport where our tour will end.
