The Church of Theth
Today we start walking toward the Church of Theth. The church as the hallmark of Theth, dates from 1892 and is one of the most visited sites in the area. Theth has a predominantly catholic population and this is visible through the influence of the church’s clergy for centuries. Some of the priest who have served in this church where well know Albanian writers who have contributed immensely in the education of the local population. Our next stop is the Locked in Tower.
2
The Lock-in Tower, Theth
Our next stop is the Lock-in Tower, which were used in Northern Albania to defend killers and offenders from revenge and blood-feuds, while trying to find a "peaceful" solution between the families involved. That was a part of the Kanun, a rule of conduct written by Leke Dukagjini almost 6 centuries ago.
3
The Waterfall of Grunas, Theth
Later we walk to the Waterfall of Grunas. It takes about 1 hour to walk from the locked in tower to Grunas Waterfall. The waterfall is about 30 m high and is considered as one of the most beautiful natural monuments in Theth for which it has received a protection status by the Albanian Government. After this refreshing visit we walk down to Grunas Canyon on our way to the Blue Eye. The canyon is about 60 m deep and about 2 km long. After this short visit we continue walking to the Blue Eye, big pool of deep blue water formed by the Black river flowing down the mountain. This pool is about 100 m² and about 5 m deep. Keep in mind that even during the summer the water temperature is really cold if you intend to swim there.
