Day 1. Mother Teresa Airport – Tirana
Arrival at the Mother Theresa Airport. We drive from the Airport to the city of Tirana. If the group likes, after accommodation we take a city tour of Tirana.
Day 2. Tirana – Bajram Curri – Valbonë
Breakfast in Tirana. The group starts driving into the heart of the Albanian Alps to reach in the afternoon the village of Valbonë. On our way to Valbonë we stop in the city of Bajram Curri for lunch. Bajram Curri is a small city situated on the foot of a mountain. The name of the city comes from the national hero Bajram Curri which was an outstanding fighter in honor of whom in the city centre is placed a 7m high statue. The museum of the city has a typical north Albanian architecture and it’s a very interesting to be visited. After visiting the city we continue driving to our destination through the villages and Valbona valley having short breaks on the way.
Day. 3 Valbonë – Kukaj – Valbonë
Breakfast in Valbonë. After breakfast we take our lunch bags and begin walking from the village of Kukaj. We walk for about 2 -3 hours uphill, through the thick snow until we reach Pllanë, about 1550 m above sea level. There we can rest and enjoy the panorama. In the afternoon the meadows of Pllane give us the perfect opportunity for sliding down the mountain until the village of Valbonë.
Day. 4 Valbonë – Grykat e hapta
Breakfast in Valbonë. This morning we walk to Grykat e Hapta Mountain 2625 m high. The walk will be challenging since we have to reach the altitude of 1700 m. It will take about 3-4 hours to reach our summit. From this point we can enjoy an amazing view of Valbona valley and the surrounding mountains. We can even see the highest mountain in Albania, Jezerca 2692 m high. After we soak up this spectacular view from the altitude of 1700 m and have lunch we begin afterwards going down the mountain until we arrive in the village of Valbonë. Overnight: Valbonë.
Day 5. Valbonë – Sopot – Tropojë
Breakfast in Valbonë. In the morning we drive toward the village of Tropojë. Before reaching the village we stop the car and continue walking on the snow from the village of Shoshan to the village of Sopot. During our walk we will learn about the tradition and the history of the villages and meet with the locals on the way. From Sopot we drive for about 15 minutes to the village of Tropojë. Lunch will be in Tropojë where we will get to taste the local products of the village. Accommodation in the Aste guesthouse.The village until the ’50 was the administrative center of Tropoja district so it still retains its previous importance. In the afternoon we will walk until the village of Shipshan 800 m high.
Overnight: Tropojë village.
Day 6. Tropojë – Buçaj – Padesh – Botushë – Gjakovë (Kosovo)
Breakfast in Tropojë. We drive for 20 min until the village of Buçaj. From there we begin walking through the snow to the village of Padesh for around 2.5 hours. Padesh is a beautiful village surrounded by a wide forest of beech and pine trees in the altitude of 1450 m. If the weather is clear we can see the wide valley of Tropoja and part of Dukagjini flatland in Kosovo. Lunch will be in a family house in Padesh. After lunch we will continue walking toward the villages of Kosovo, Koshare and Botushë. From the village of Botushë we drive to the city of Gjakovë (about 30 min).
Day 7. Gjakovë – Prizren – Brod
Breakfast in Gjakovë. Today we will visit the city of Gjakovë and walk through the ottoman Bazaar which has around 500 stores, one of the longest in Balkan. We visit as well Hadumi mosque as one of the most characteristic mosques in Kosovo. After this, the visit in Gjakovë ends and we drive to the historic city of Prizren. Prizren is historically one of the most important cities for the Albanians. Many historical events such as the Albanian League have happened in Prizren making the city the capital of the Albanians for a short time. There we will visit the memorial house of the Albanian League, Sinan Pasha’s mosque, the Orthodox Church and the centre. Lunch will be in the city centre as well. After lunch we continue driving to toward the town of Brod, region of Dragash in Kosovo.
Day 8. Brod – Sharri Mountain – Brod
Breakfast in Brod. The group begins snowshoeing in Sharri Mountain until we reach the altitude of 1600 m. Sharri Mountain is and the most beautiful mountain ranges in Kosovo. The wildlife is as well protected which means that we could possibly see deers and wild goats living in their natural habitat in the National Park of Brod. There we will have a picnic lunch as well. In the afternoon we return back to our hotel in Brod.
Day 9. Brod – Tirana, Albania
Breakfast in Brod. Today we will return back to Albania. Before coming to Tirana we visit the city of Krujë where we visit the castle and the Scanderbeg museum. Kruja was one of the most important towns for the Albanians during the 15th century which withstood successfully to at least 3 major sieges by the Ottoman Empire. Scanderbeg was one of the most successful leaders of medieval Albania fighting against the Ottoman Empire and is considered as well the uniting figure for all the Albanians even to nowadays.
In the end of our visit in Krujë we drive to Tirana where will be accommodated.
Day 10. Tirana – Airport
Breakfast in Tirana. All optional, we have a relaxed morning before departure or we visit the National History Museum and then depart to Mother Theresa Airport. End of the program
